Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 are two NASA space probes launched in 1972 and 1973, respectively, to study the asteroid belt and explore the Jovian system and Saturn, as well as the solar wind and cosmic rays. Both probes carried a plaque featuring a schematic drawing of two human figures and information intended to help locate Earth, in case the probes were ever intercepted by an extraterrestrial civilization. Both probes reached the escape velocity required to leave the Solar System: Pioneer 10 is heading toward Aldebaran, while Pioneer 11 is heading toward the constellation of Aquila.
